Experience Historic Long Island Locations

Visiting historical locations is a great learning experience and can also be a ton of fun. Long Island served as one of the early 17th-century European settlements, so there is so much history across all of our communities. Historical mansions, parks, and farms — you'll find it all. Here are some historic location recommendations from our real estate agents:
- Old Westbury Gardens - 71 Old Westbury Rd, Old Westbury, NY 11568
This Charles II-style mansion is one of Long Island's most beautiful buildings and was completed in 1906 by English designer George A Crawley. In addition to the mansion, Old West Bury Gardens includes about 200 acres and contains beautiful landscapes and scenery. Today, the building has been transformed into a museum that hosts guided tours, concerts, community events, and more. The museum is just a short drive away from some really nice Nassau County homes for sale. - Sherwood-Jayne Farm - 55 Old Post Rd, Setauket- East Setauket, NY 11733
This historic farmhouse was built in 1730 and operated as a Long Island farmstead for more than 150 years. Tours of the Sherwood-Jayne Farm buildings are by appointment only, and private tours for up to six people cost $100. However, the Sherwood-Jayne Farm Nature Trail is a great (and free) way to explore the property and gain an appreciation for local wildlife. Another spectacular historical mansion, the William Floyd Estate is over 250 years old. The home was built and occupied by the family of William Floyd, a Declaration of Independence signer, who was born in the house in 1734. The full property includes twelve outbuildings, a cemetery, and tons of trails that wind their way through hundreds of acres of forest. The estate is open for tours every year between Memorial Day and Columbus Day. - Blydenburgh County Park - Veteran's Memorial Highway, Smithtown, NY 11788
Blydenburgh County Park surrounds Stump Pond, a historic man-made body of water that was created in 1798 after the Nissequogue River was dammed to make a Grist Mill. Today, the park and pond serve as one of the most scenic places on Long Island. Enjoy miles of well-maintained trails, campsites, boat launches, and picnic areas. The park also hosts historical guided walking tours throughout the year. - Walt Whitman's Birthplace - 246 Old Walt Whitman Rd, Huntington Station, NY 11746
Take a tour of the well-preserved birthplace of famous American poet Walt Whitman. Walt Whitman's Birthplace is a simple, federal-style home that has been transformed into a great museum with numerous exhibits showcasing the life of Whitman and his family. Tours of the home are conducted Wednesday through Friday from 1 pm to 4 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. Tours are about 40 to 60 minutes, and reservations are not required.
